Considering all the equine infectious disease concerns facing the horse industry, "biosecurity" is now a well-known word in most every horse owner’s vocabulary. Equine Guelph, the horse owner and caregiver’s center at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada, strives to respond quickly to industry needs and, thus, will be offering two-week online eWorkshops designed to help horse owners and industry professionals gain knowledge on some of the industry’s hottest topics.

In Equine Guelph’s upcoming biosecurity eWorkshop, industry authorities, including guest speakers from the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC), will share their knowledge of how owners can decrease the risk of infectious disease in your own horse and horses you care for. Additionally, the course is designed to teach participants practical ways to reduce the chance of infectious diseases both on the farm and while traveling.

OVC researcher Scott Weese, DVM, DVSc, Dipl. ACVIM, says, “Having a basic infection control plan in place is probably the biggest thing someone can do to reduce the risk of disease. Equine Guelph’s biosecurity programs are great for getting people thinking in a broader context when it comes to infection control and putting into practice the easy day-to-day steps which can reduce outbreaks of disease.”

Tuition for the next course, which runs Nov. 4-17, is $75 + HST. Register at https://equineguelph.ca/eworkshops/biosecurity.php
