New York Horse Shooter Sentenced

A man who pleaded guilty to fatally shooting an Oneida County, New York, horse last year will serve a prison term and pay restitution to the animal’s owner.

Last December, police responded to a report of shots fired near a horse farm in Kirkland. When they arrived, a witness reported seeing a white man using a long gun to shoot into a pasture from inside a gray Dodge Avenger. The same afternoon, an owner called police to report that her show horse had been fatally shot in the neck.

Later, acting on a tip, Kirkland Police arrested Robert Webster Jr., of Durhamville, New York, and charged him with Class D felony criminal mischief, criminal mischief in the second degree, Class E felony animal cruelty, and Class A misdemeanor reckless endangerment in connection with the incident.

In September, Webster, under a plea agreement, pleaded guilty to second degree criminal mischief
