In last week’s online poll, TheHorse.com asked about your tendencies when you need a tractor for tough horse-related chores. Five hundred thirty readers responded, and we’ve tallied the results

Of the 530 voters, 334 (63%) said they own a tractor, so they simply turn the key and go. Another 51 respondents (10%) said they borrow a tractor from their neighbors or friends, and 19 voters (4%) said they’ll rent one if the need arises. Seventy-six readers (14%) said they do without a tractor, while the remaining 50 voters (9%) said they have no need for one. Additionally, 57 respondents provided comments about their individual situations.

Some respondents described their tractors and how they use them regularly:

  • "Could not run a 10 horse barn without my tractor. It saves me hours of work each week."
  • "All our tractors are antique but still run like a charm!"
  • "Three different kinds so I always have the right one for the job."
  • "Couldn’t survive without my tractor! Got one big enough to move round (hay) rolls."
  • "We have an old Ford that has a loader which is invaluable to the operation of our farm."
  • "We have a small garden tractor that we haul and empty manure with."
  • "I use my lawn tractor with a cart for heavy jobs, up to a point. I hire a man with a tractor for other jobs
