During hot summer days, horses can lose essential nutrients quickly via sweating during heavy work or even when simply standing in a stall or pasture. In last week’s online poll, we asked our readers if they give their horses electrolytes. More than 800 people responded, and we’ve tallied the results!

Of the 804 respondents, 323 (40%) said they do not give their horses electrolytes. Another 172 respondents (21%) said they give their horses electrolytes only in conjunction with strenuous exercise, while 142 individuals (18%) said they give their horses electrolytes only during the hottest months of the year. Some 115 respondents (14%) said they give their horses electrolytes all year long, and the remaining 52 respondents (7%) chose “other.”

Additionally, more than 65 people commented about electrolytes and horses.
