Reward Offered in Florida Show Horse Theft

Florida law enforcement authorities hope that the offer of a cash reward will help them find whoever stole a show horse from a ranch in Miami-Dade.

Kathleen Monahan, president, South Florida Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Horse Rescue, said an 11-year old Andalusian mare named Deseada was discovered missing on Jan. 19 after neighbors reported hearing a disturbance. Investigators believe the mare was taken sometime between the night of Jan. 18 and the early morning hours of Jan. 19, Monahan said.

The missing horse was microchipped for identification, she said.

A foal produced by the mare in December was not taken, Monahan said
