2016-17 BEVA President Takes Reins

During her presidency Dr. Vicki Nicholls hopes to promote veterinarians’ role in the field of equine dentistry.

Vicki Nicholls, BSc(hons), BVetMed, Cert AVP, MRCVS, BAEDT, part of the University of Liverpool’s Veterinary Postgraduate Unit, has been appointed as president of the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) for 2016-17.

She takes over the role from Mark Bowen, BVetMed, PhD, CertEM (IntMed), MRCVS, at the end of 2016 BEVA Congress, held Sept. 7-10, in Birmingham, U.K. Jonathan Pycock, B.Vet.Med, PhD, DESM, MRCVS, becomes President Elect.

Nicholls qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 2001 having previously obtained a zoology degree from the University of Leeds. She completed an internship at the Mid-Atlantic Equine Hospital in New Jersey before joining the equine team at Bristol University and developing an interest in equine dentistry. Following several years in a Wiltshire first- and second-opinion hospital Nicholls joined Wright and Morten in Cheshire and also embarked on a mission of post-graduate qualifications. She passed the BEVA/British Veterinary Dental Association dental exam in 2010 followed by advanced veterinary practice certificates in equine medicine and dentistry. Nicholls joined the BEVA Council in 2010, from which time she has embraced the role of chair of the Allied Professionals Committee.

During her presidency Nicholls is particularly keen to promote the role of equine veterinarians in the field of equine dentistry
