BLM to Hold Public Scoping Meetings About Wild Burros

The meetings will focus on wild burro management in Arizona’s Black Mountain Herd Management Area.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is planning two public scoping meetings to discuss the management of wild burros in the Black Mountain Herd Management Area (BMHMA). The BMHMA is located 15 miles west of Kingman, Arizona, and parallels the eastern shoreline of the Colorado River for 80 miles, from Hoover Dam south to the Needles Bridge in California.

The meeting dates, times, and locations are as follows:

  • Bullhead City, Arizona
    April 1, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m.
    Suddenlink Community Center
    2380 3rd St.
    Bullhead City, AZ 86442
  • Kingman, Arizona
    April 2, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m.
    BLM Kingman Field Office
    2755 Mission Blvd.
    Kingman, AZ 86401

From 6:00 to 6:30 p.m., poster presentations will be available for viewing. At 6:30 p.m., there will be a formal presentation, which will include the following topics:

  • Current population estimate;
  • Vegetation utilization data;
  • Fertility control on wild burros;
  • Appropriate management levels; and
  • Burros outside the herd management area

Following the formal presentation, attendees will be able to provide comments on issues, data, and other concerns
