Last year’s Elicpse Award-winning sprinter Lost in the Fog is being treated for “a slight case” of colic at the University of California-Davis veterinary school, according to his trainer, Greg Gilchrist, who accompanied his stable star to Davis.

Gilchrist, who is based in Northern California only an hour from UC-Davis, said the son of Lost Soldier was “acting uncomfortably” Sunday, and he decided to take him to Davis as a precautionary measure.

“If it wasn’t Lost in the Fog, we would have taken care of it at the barn,” Gilchrist stated. “This is a very slight case of colic. We are not anticipating surgery being necessary. They are running tests on him now, and I would expect to have him back in the barn Thursday or Friday. When he got off the van at Davis, he was feeling good enough where he was looking around for the racetrack.”

Lost in the Fog, owned by San Francisco real estate man Harry Aleo, enjoyed a magical campaign last year, winning eight of nine races, including the King’s Bishop Stakes (gr. I), Carry Back Stakes (gr. II), Riva Ridge Breeders’ Cup Stakes (gr. II), Swale Stakes (gr. II), and Bay Shore Stakes (gr. III) on his way to being named champion sprinter
