2012 KER Nutrition Conference Scheduled for May 17-18

The 18th Kentucky Equine Research (KER) Conference will be held May 17-18, 2012, at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Lexington, Ky. The Conference will be followed by an invitation-only day for KER Team Members and brand alliance partners on Saturday, May 19. Sunday is an outing for Team Members and invited guests at the High Hope Steeplechase at the Kentucky Horse Park.

At this year's Equine Research Conference you'll have a chance to hear the latest in scientific advances in equine health and wellness from KER veterinarians as well as invited speakers, including:

  • David Pugh, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACT, Dipl. ACVN, a professor at the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine;
  • Martin K. Nielsen, DVM, PhD, an assistant professor in equine parasitology at the University of Kentucky's M.H. Gluck Equine Research Center;
  • Ramesh C. Gupta, DVM, PhD, Dipl. ABT, head of toxicology and professor at Murray State University's Breathitt Veterinary Center;
  • Amelia S. Munsterman, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACVS, ACVECC, of the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine;
  • Alan J. Ruggles, DVM, Dipl. ACVS, a surgeon at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Ky.;
  • Stephen M. Reed, DVM, Dipl. ACVIM, an internist at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital; and
  • Amanda Adams, PhD, assistant research professor at the Gluck Equine Research Center. 

Presentation topics include nutritional management of the growing horses and aged horses; feed and nutritional considerations for ponies, drafts, and Miniature Horses; sustainable equine parasite control; recent advances in oral electrolyte supplementation; nutritional management of sick and hospitalized horses; symptoms, diagnosis, and pathophysiology of mycotoxin exposure; feeding and nutritional management of horses after colic; equine metabolic syndrome; prevention and treatment of developmental orthopedic disease; and nutritional implications for prevention and treatment of equine neurologic disease. Continuing Education
This program is approved by the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB) Registry of Approved Continuing Education (RACE) program for 12 hours of continuing education in jurisdictions that recognize AAVSB RACE approval.
