On July 5 the New Bolton Center will present a lecture entitled "Prepurchase Examinations: The Role of the Veterinarian" as part of the First Tuesdays Lecture Series at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine at New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, Pa. The series offers the public open lectures on equine topics, at no charge, the first Tuesday of each month.

The upcoming lecture will be a presented in New Bolton Center’s Alumni Hall by Midge Leitch, VMD, Dipl. ACVS, a New Bolton Center staff veterinarian in the department of sports medicine whose clinical emphasis is radiology.

The presentation will focus on what the expectations of both the buyer and the veterinarian might be for the prepurchase exam. Leitch will also discuss the ways in which the prepurchase exam can vary to meet the needs of prospective owners and with regard to individual horses, as well as the real possibility of resale if the horse doesn’t work out. She will also address what should be taken into account when considering going beyond the standard tests.

The First Tuesday lecture series offers New Bolton Center an opportunity to share current information on topics of interest and relevance to horse owners and caregivers throughout the region. Upcoming lecture topics include Strangles in August, and Lyme disease, Potomac Horse Fever, and Anaplasmosis in September
