Parx Racing EHV-1 Quarantine Lifted

The quarantine of two barns began in early November 2013 when a horse tested positive for EHV-1.

An almost two-month quarantine tied to an equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) outbreak at Parx Racing in Bensalem, Pa., has been officially lifted, a track official said Jan. 13.

"We are all clear," director of racing Sal Sinatra said.

The quarantine began in November 2013 when a horse tested positive for EHV-1. Officials released two barns from quarantine in December 2013. The situation kept horses from entering or leaving the grounds, which led to the cancellation of several stakes races.

During the quarantine Parx was able to fill eight races a day. Numerous cancellations in December were related to track and weather conditions, not the quarantine
