Hambletonian Festival Continues Veterinary Education

Two full days of veterinary education returned to the Meadowlands Racetrack, in East Rutherford, N.J., August 4-5 for the 2011 Hambletonian Continuing Education Seminar for Equine Veterinarians, sponsored in part by Pfizer Animal Health. The annual event, held in conjunction with the Hambletonian Festival of Racing offered veterinarians hands-on learning through a full day wet lab and seminar program.

Wet labs allow veterinarians to do more than just hear about the latest advances in veterinary medicine; They offer the chance to practice these techniques with other professionals in a collaborative environment. In this year’s program, the Pfizer Animal Health wet lab focused on ophthalmic examinations, ophthalmic nerve blocks, and the placement of subpalpebral lavage.

The wet lab was conducted by Brian Gilger, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACVO, professor of ophthalmology at the College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University. Dr.

The Continuing Education Seminar featured a full day of speakers for continuing education credit. Among the topics presented was a seminar from Mark Crisman, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACVIM, of the equine veterinary services department at Pfizer Animal Health, on the prevention and treatment of equine respiratory disease. This event was free of charge to veterinary attendees
