Law enforcement authorities in Ellis County, Kan., are seeking information connected to the alleged theft of an Arab/Saddlebred-cross mare removed from its pasture at the RMH Ranch in Hays, Kan., on May 23.

The horse's owners reported her missing after discovering that a gate leading to the pasture had been cut, said Ellis County Sheriff's Deputy Garrett Brening.

The bay and white-colored mare and its newborn foal were among several mares and foals residing in the remote pasture when the incident occurred. A surrogate is nursing the missing mare's foal.

Owner Mary Sturdy said the mare may have been targeted because of its more than $7,000 value
