Illinois Horses Die in Barn Fire

Thirty-two horses died in the fire, while at least five escaped injury.

More than 30 horses perished in a barn fire at an Illinois riding stable last weekend.

Crystal Lake, Illinois, Fire Rescue Department Chief Paul DeRaedt said fire personnel responded to a 911 call about a barn fire at the Valley View Stable in Woodstock around 11 p.m. on Nov. 22.

“The rest of the family was away and the son was home when he woke up to a cracking sound,” DeRaedt said. Upon arrival, fire crews discovered that the barn was fully involved in fire, he said.

Approximately 32 horses were located in the barn at the time of the fire, DeRaedt said
