Thomas A. (Tad) Davis, author of the Horse Owners and Breeders Tax Handbook, will conduct a tax workshop as part of the upcoming American Horse Council (AHC) annual meeting in Washington, D.C. The tax session will be from 1:30-3:00 p.m. on June 21 at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill.

Davis will discuss changes to the federal tax code affecting horse owners and others in the industry, including the recently extended Section 179 expense deduction, "bonus" depreciation, and the changes in the depreciation of racehorses. Davis will also review "hobby loss" issues; deductible breeding, racing, and showing expenses; the passive loss rules; depreciation; and sales of horses.

The AHC will be releasing the new, updated version of the Horse Owners and Breeders Tax Handbook at the tax workshop. Attendees will be eligible to purchase the handbook at a reduced rate.
