Hilary Clayton, BVMS, PhD, Dipl. ACVSMR, MRCVS, has retired from her long-held post as Mary Anne McPhail Dressage Chair in Equine Sports Medicine at Michigan State University (MSU), but says she'll still be active in the equine and research communities.

"I retired from my position at MSU at the end of March," she told The Horse. "I have definitely not retired from the equine world or from equine research, but after almost 40 years in academia and 17 years at MSU it was time for a change."

She said she'll continue to author books and give lectures and presentations.

Clayton also recently began a new venture, called Sport Horse Science LLC, with which she hopes to "bridge the gap between research and practice in equestrian sports and specifically to teach riders, trainers, and veterinarians to make use of new technology. We now have some equipment that's quick and easy to use that can be applied to improve riding, training, and lameness detection
