Arizona Authorities Probe Attacks on Horses

One horse was shot and three others doused with chemicals while they grazed in their Phoenix pasture.

Operators of an Arizona riding stable are hoping the offer of a cash reward will help lead law enforcement authorities to those responsible for shooting one horse and dousing three others with chemicals while they grazed in their pasture located in the South Mountain Park in Phoenix.

Donnie Everly, spokesman for the Ponderosa Stables, said that between Sept. 8 and Sept. 10, four of the stable’s horses were injured in separate attacks. Three horses sustained burns after being doused with an unknown chemical and a fourth horse sustained a gunshot wound to its left shoulder area, he said. All the horses have been treated and are recovering well, Everly said.

Everly said the attacks were the latest in a series of events at the sables during the past month.

"We’ve had gas and a truck battery stolen and we’ve found gang signs on our corrals," he said
