The American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) is seeking bids from veterinarians interested in being considered for the role of "Official Veterinarian" at the 2012 world championship shows. To be considered for the position, a request for proposal (available online) must be completed and sent, along with the candidate’s curriculum vitae, to Tom Persechino at the AQHA by June 25.

"Because of the quality and caliber of horses, ensuring proper veterinary medical care for horses competing at the AQHA world shows is of paramount importance," the organization said in a statement on their website. "In addition, finding a world show veterinarian who will follow the rules of AQHA and the world shows, and be dedicated to the horses on the world show grounds is mandatory and will be factored into AQHA’s selection. As such, AQHA is seeking bids from equine practitioners who believe they possess the qualifications and want to be considered for the position of ‘official veterinarian for AQHA’s world shows.’ "

The AQHA said they hope to find one practitioner to fulfill the official capacity at the Built Ford Tough AQHYA World Championship Show in Oklahoma City, Okla.; the Adequan Select World Championship Show in Amarillo, Texas; and Bank of America Amateur and FedEx Open World Championship Show, also in Oklahoma City.

"Veterinarians capable of serving in this capacity for all of these world shows will receive primary consideration," the organization said. "If there isn’t a veterinarian able to or interested in being the official veterinarian for all of the above-mentioned world shows, those who can serve in the capacity as official veterinarian for the greatest number of shows will then receive primary consideration
