An Iowa man is facing multiple charges after law enforcement personnel confiscated 22 allegedly neglected horses from his Fayette County property earlier this month.

Fayette County Sheriff Marty Fisher said that on March 12, law enforcement personnel discovered 11 allegedly neglected horses residing on a Sumner property after responding to a complaint about their condition. Carcasses of another 25 animals were also discovered on the property, he said.

Another 11 allegedly neglected animals were discovered residing on a nearby Bremer County property owned by the same individual, Fisher said. The Sumner Police Department is also investigating that neglect case, he added.

Following a veterinary examination at the scene, the surviving horses from both counties were placed with the Gentle Spirit Horses Rescue and Sanctuary, in Sumner, Iowa, for rehabilitative care, Fisher said. The owner of the horses residing on both properties, Lawrence M. Daisy, subsequently surrendered the surviving horses to the agency, he said
