The 21st annual Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) Stallion Season Auction raised a gross amount of nearly $1.7 million during a three-day telephone auction and a live auction held Jan. 8 at the Keeneland Entertainment Center.

Almost 300 people attended the live auction sponsored by Brushwood Stable, CandyLand Farm, Lael Stables, PBI Bank, and Rosenberg Thoroughbred Consulting while volunteers from Fasig-Tipton were on-hand to conduct the auction. The majority of the stallion seasons were sold during the telephone auction, however 32 seasons including Arch (sire of 2010 Breeders' Cup Classic winner Blame), Bernardini, Giant's Causeway, Medaglia D'Oro (sire of Rachel Alexandra), Street Cry (sire of Zenyatta), and Tiznow were included in the live auction.

"It is wonderful to see our industry come together to raise money for the welfare of horses and the people who work with them," said Dan Rosenberg, president of TCA. "I would like to thank the donors, sponsors and advertisers, bidders, attendees, and volunteers who make it possible for Thoroughbred Charities of America to support so many worthy organizations around the country. And a special thanks to the volunteers working for all our grantees caring for and finding new careers for horses."

The TCA also presented a few awards to horse industry members during the auction. Darley was presented with the 2010 TCA Leadership Award, while Lori Neagle of the Kentucky Equine Humane Center, in Nicholasville, Ky., was presented with the TCA Industry Service Award. Nicole Pieratt of Sallee Horses was recognized for the assistance her organization provides to numerous Thoroughbred rescue organizations
