Days End Farm Horse Rescue, a non-profit, volunteer-based animal welfare organization, is the 2005 recipient of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) equine welfare award, the Lavin Cup. Named for AAEP past president A. Gary Lavin, VMD, the award is presented annually to a non-veterinary individual or organization that has demonstrated exceptional compassion or developed and enforced rules and guidelines for the welfare of the horse.

Founded in 1989 by Kathleen and Allan Schwartz, Days End Farm Horse Rescue is dedicated to the rehabilitation of abused and neglected horses. The all-breed horse rescue in Lisbon, Md., has pioneered work in the fields of equine rescue and rehabilitation, educational programs, community outreach, and animal disaster recovery. Through the dedicated efforts of its volunteers and contributors, Days End Farm has assisted more than 1,000 abused and neglected horses in Maryland and across the United States
