The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Nevada’s Ely District has concluded the Outside Silver King and Triple B herd management area (HMA) bait-trap wild horse gathers.

The BLM gathered and removed 105 excess wild horses from outside the Silver King HMA, about 90 miles south of Ely, Nevada. They gathered and removed 181 excess wild horses from in and around the Triple B HMA, about 30 miles northwest of Ely. The BLM used hay and water to gather the horses.

A veterinarian was on-call during gather operations, which were conducted by contractors. Horses removed from the range were transported to the National Wild Horse and Burro Center at Palomino Valley, located 20 miles north of Reno, Nevada, to be prepared for the BLM’s adoption program.

The appropriate management level (AML) for the Silver King HMA is 60 to 128 wild horses, while the current population is 807 wild horses. The Triple B HMA has an AML of 250 to 518 wild horses, with a current population of more than 1,400 horses
