Trailer Accident Claims Roping Horses’ Lives

A traffic accident in Terrell, Texas, has claimed the lives of three horses en route to Alabama from the U.S. Team Roping Championships in Oklahoma.

Terrell police spokesman A.D. Sansom said that on Oct. 30, four horses were traveling in a trailer from Oklahoma to Alabama when their rig jackknifed and rolled over.

A report Sansom provided indicated the truck and trailer were traveling eastbound on Spur 557 when the driver felt a vibration the driver thought was caused by the road surface. Then, the truck steering became in operable before the rig veered off the roadway and jackknifed, the report said. The trailer subsequently rolled over while the truck remained upright, the report said.

Three of the four horses in the trailer perished; two died of their injuries and the third was humanely euthanized at the scene due to its injuries, the report said
