The town of Hudson recently canceled all nighttime sports, postponed a high school football game, and sprayed mosquito-killing insecticide to get rid of Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE).


There’s just a few more weeks of bug season left, but the town has taken precautions since EEE was detected in a mosquito pool in late September.


“I think it’s a good thing that they’re taking it seriously,” said Johanne Riendeau, team mom for the Mitey Mites, a Hudson Litchfield Bears team. Her daughter is one of the cheerleaders.


“Obviously it’s going to be talked about more now because they found the mosquitoes, but the coaches have always been diligent” about spraying the students with mosquito repellant, she said
