LSU Equine Researchers Receive Grant Funding

Two researchers with laminitis-related projects received funding.

Louisiana State University (LSU) School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) researchers have recently received more than $132,977 in funding to further their individual research projects. The Competitive Organized Research Program (CORP) and USDA funded $83,000 to the LSU SVM, while another LSU SVM researcher received a $49,977 grant from the Audubon Center for Research of Endangered Species.

The CORP and USDA 1433 funding are internal competitions where LSU SVM researchers apply for consideration. Eighteen researchers applied for CORP and USDA funding, but only nine will be awarded. Researchers use the funding for small-scale research projects and will use the findings to apply for larger federally funded resources.

“This year, the applications for the SVM CORP, USDA, and ACRES funding were highly competitive and demonstrate the high-quality research pursued by our faculty,” said Rhonda Cardin, PhD, associate dean for Research and Advanced Studies. “Impressively, assistant professors in all three departments received awards
