With South Florida under a hurricane warning, Calder Racecourse cancelled live racing and simulcasting Monday (Oct. 24) as the state’s southwest coast awaited the arrival of Hurricane Wilma.

Track president Ken Dunn also announced that the main track and training track will be closed for exercising as well, as track personnel and horsemen are preparing the stable area for the storm, currently a category 2 and whose forecast is to cross the state and could possibly affect the Miami area.

The original nine-race program carded for Monday will be run on Friday and the racing office is taking entries Sunday for two additional races for that afternoon to create an 11-race card. Calder will also add two live races to Saturday’s program, resulting in a 12-race live card.

As of Sunday morning, the track plans to be open for simulcasting on Tuesday and Wednesday. There is no live racing scheduled for those days
