Fire authorities in New Jersey are investigating a fire that claimed the lives of 22 show horses stabled at a Sussex County boarding and training barn on Saturday.

New Jersey State Police Spokesman Trooper Christopher Kay said that in the early hours of Jan. 21, New Jersey State police personnel responded to a call about a fire at the Heritage Acres Farm, a boarding and training facility in Sussex County, N.J. Upon arrival, state police personnel discovered the entire structure engulfed in flames.

Initial investigations revealed that 22 horses were stabled in the barn at the time of the fire, Kay said. Each animal was valued at between $10,000 and $60,000, he said. All perished in the blaze, Kay said.
