Mr Bean, 21, a favored local point-to-point horse in Costwolds, UK, will make his last public appearance the Monday after Easter at Cotswolds racecourse. Mr Bean had been attacked in December 2005 by a knife while in a field, was nursed back to health, then spent his next years working for a variety of public and civic charity events.

In his farewell appearance, racegoers will be asked to donate to the animal welfare charity Blue Cross.

The horse’s owner said she “hopes to get across the message that older horses can still be fun and that owners should not send them off to the knacker’s yard simply because their animals are getting on a bit.”
