A Somerset County, Pa., equestrian group has asked to have 5.5 miles of horse trail added to the Great Allegheny Passage.

Members of the Sheriff’s Posse, a horseback rescue group, said the Somerset Parks and Recreation Board has asked for a feasibility study to be done on opening a new section of trail to horse traffic.

But Roger Wahl, a member of the group, said the county has already done such a study. In addition, he said there is already a 7-mile section where horses are allowed.

Brett Hollern, the county’s trail coordinator, estimated it could cost up to $70,000 to make more segments of the trail horse-friendly
