Louisiana Horse Deaths Investigated

Authorities in Concordia Parish, Louisiana, are hoping a cash reward will help them identify who shot three horses grazing in a pasture near Lake Concordia.

Sheriff Kenneth Hendrick said sheriff's personnel responded to a call from an owner who found two horses dead in their pasture on June 21; a third horse was found wounded. All three animals had sustained gunshot wounds from a rifle, he said.

“These were all horses that someone had taken good care of,” Hendrick said.

The Concordia Parish Sheriff's Department continues to investigate the case, he said.

Meanwhile, the sheriff's department is offering a $500 cash reward to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the shootings. That reward could grow, Hendrick said.

“We are getting phone calls from people who want to help,” Hendrick said. “Whoever did this could be dangerous to people, too.”

Anyone with information about the incident should call the Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office at 318/336-5231.
