Horse owners are encouraged to be as prepared as possible for a mare’s foaling. This can be done by appropriately managing the mare throughout her pregnancy and collecting the necessary equipment and information to have readily available when the foal is born.

This free fact sheet outlines important pre-foaling considerations and helpful steps you can take to provide a normal foaling for your horse.

In addition to preparation steps, this report examines means of predicting your horse’s foaling, tips for attending the birth and postpartum care, as well as tips for knowing when to call the veterinarian.
