A Des Moines, Iowa, man riding a horse is in critical condition and his horse had to be euthanized after he was hit by a car.


Police say Dennis Kaiser was riding a horse on the city’s southeast side about 8:50 p.m. Friday when the horse was hit by a car.


The collision threw Kaiser into another lane of traffic, where he was hit by another car.


Police say the driver of the second car stopped to help, but the driver of the first car fled the scene
