Herpesvirus: Final Wellington Quarantine Lifted

Florida officials released the equine herpesvirus (EHV) quarantine on the Palm Beach Equine Sports Complex on Jan. 20. The facility was the last of 10 to be released from state-mandated quarantine.

The last official quarantine due to the Florida outbreak was imposed Dec. 24, 2006. In total, 13 Florida horses were confirmed infected with EHV, and six horses died or were euthanatized.

The Palm Beach Equine Sports Complex is within walking distance of the Winter Equestrian Festival, a 10-week series of hunter/jumper and dressage shows scheduled to begin Jan. 24. Show managers announced in early January that special vet check protocols would be required for the Festival. For more information on entry requirements click here.
