Each week, for the past four months, TheHorse.com has featured a different horse in the Matchmaking: Adoptable Horse section of The Horse Health E-newsletter (sign up at https://thehorse.com). This section was designed to help spread the word about horses that are up for adoption through different non-profit organizations. The adoption of these horses can be very difficult because, for whatever reason, they are not wanted anymore. This is their last chance at having a loving home.

Fifteen horses from equine welfare centers from New York to Colorado. have been featured in the Adoptable Horse section. The ages have ranged from 11 months to 22 years. There have been several different breeds and colors represented, along with different levels of skill under saddle or in harness. Some of the horses have not been started under saddle, while others are restricted to use as a companion animal and are unridable.

According to several organizations, the Adoptable Horse section is receiving attention. “Thank you for featuring Homer,” said Beverlee Dee, executor of Bright Futures Farm, about a horse featured in the E-newsletter. “As of yet he has not been adopted. However, in addition to the interest generated by people who find our site on their own, your feature generated five emails I can be certain of and two that are still interested.”

Of the fifteen horses featured, only five have been adopted so far. The other ten are still waiting for that perfect match. Although these numbers might seem discouraging, several people have shown interest in adopting the ten available and other horses available from the groups. An employee at the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) says, “The biggest challenge is finding people with a proper fit with the horse
