Larry Bramlage, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACVS, has been named the 2002 vice president of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP). He will be inducted into office at the AAEP’s 47th Annual Convention in San Diego, Calif., Nov. 24-28.

Bramlage is an internationally recognized equine orthopedic surgeon, and is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. He is a partner in Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Ky., and is an adjunct professor at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. An active member of the AAEP, Bramlage has served on the board of directors, and participates in the “On Call” program to provide veterinary expertise during media coverage of major horseracing events. He has chaired the AAEP’s Educational Programs Committee and has served on the Insurance, Alternative Therapies, Racing Injuries, Acutely Injured Horse, and Research committees. In addition, his AAEP appointments include terms on the Executive Director Review Committee, Executive Director Selection Committee, and Journal Evaluation Committee.

In recognition of his dedication and contribution to Thoroughbred racing, Bramlage was awarded the 1994 Jockey Club Gold Medal. He is also chairman of the Research Advisory Committee of the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation. His additional honors include the 1997 Tierlink Hochmoor Prize for his work regarding the internal fixation of fractures, and the 1998 distinguished alumnus award from The Ohio State University, Alumni Fellow Award from Kansas State University, and the British Equine Veterinary Association’s Special Award of Merit.
