Belgian Endurance Horse Tests Positive for Banned Substance

The Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) has announced that an endurance horse from Belgium has tested positive for a prohibited substance.

Samples taken at the 100k CEI1* in Vitron, Belgium, on Sept. 4 from the horse Houkoumi G, the third-place finisher ridden by Evelyne Stoffel, of Belgium, have returned positive for O-desmethyltramadol, a metabolite of tramadol.

Tramadol is an opioid analgesic used for pain relief and banned under the FEI’s Equine Anti-Doping and Controlled Medication Regulations.

The athlete has been provisionally suspended from the date of notification (Oct. 12). The horse has also been suspended for a two-month period.
