The University of California Davis (UC Davis) School of Veterinary Medicine is offering two hours of free continuing education for veterinarians on Nov. 3. The course will be a part of the dedication ceremony for the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital’s new TrueBeam linear accelerator, a tool that utilizes X ray and electron beams to treat cancerous tumors in both large and small animals.

"This machine is among the most advanced linear accelerators available, which will allow for better targeting of cancer in dog, cats, horses and the other animal species we treat," said Michael Kent, DVM, MAS, associate professor of surgical and radiological sciences at UC Davis.

This is the first TrueBeam linear accelerator to be used in veterinary medicine, the university says.
