Texas Horse, Truck Thief Sought

A Paint mare stolen from a parking lot in Texas has been recovered, but law enforcement authorities are still seeking those who took a truck and horse trailer along with the animal.

Montgomery County, Texas, Precinct 4 Constable Rowdy Hayden said that on Feb. 8, Anita Lee parked the truck and the trailer containing the mare called Kat's Trophy in the parking lot of an agricultural supply retailer before entering the store. When Lee returned to the parking lot, the horse, truck, and trailer were gone, Hayden said. Video from the store's security camera showed a green car circling the area before stopping in front of the truck and trailer; at that time, what appeared to be a white male passenger exited the car, walked over to the driver's side of the truck, and drove it away a short time later, Hayden said.

On Feb. 12, Houston Police personnel discovered the mare tied to a tree without access to food or water, Hayden said.

"She was dirty, had halter burns on her face, and was missing a shoe, but otherwise she was in good condition," Hayden said.

The mare was later reunited with her owner.

Meanwhile, police continue to seek whoever took the horse and are working to recover the still-missing truck and trailer.

Hayden said that, if caught, those responsible for the theft could face charges including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and horse theft.

The missing truck is described as a 2006 white Ford F250 Super Duty 4X4 Super Cab, license plate BP75282. The trailer is a white 2010 S&H, license plate DYZH70.

Anyone with information regarding this case should contact Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constable's office at 281/577-8985, or their local law enforcement agency.
