Lily, the 20-year-old Appaloosa/Arabian cross mare who was discovered covered in paint in a stall at a Pennsylvania auction barn earlier this year, has been adopted by comedian and former The Daily Show host Jon Stewart and his wife Tracey.

When found, Lily had been pelted with an estimated 130 shots from a paintball gun. Rescuers from the Omega Horse Rescue, in Airville, Pennsylvania, brought Lily to the New Bolton Center, in Kennett Square, for assessment and treatment. Veterinarians determined the mare was underweight, blind in one eye, and suffering from an ulcer in the other eye. Lily subsequently underwent surgery to remove the blind eye.

Lily recovered under the care of New Bolton Center ophthalmology resident Nikki Scherrer, DVM,

On May 20, Kelly Smith of Omega Horse Rescue, told The Horse that Lily, along with her pasturemate Anita, had been adopted by the Stewarts. Smith said the animals will be transferred to the Stewarts’ New Jersey farm animal sanctuary shortly
