Ross Dean Scoggins, DVM, of Villa Grove, Ill., died Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, according to the obituary in The News-Gazette (https://www.legacy.com/news-gazette/Obituaries.asp?Page=SearchResults&DateRange=AdHoc&StartDate=12/31/2006&EndDate=12/31/2006). Scoggins formerly was an equine extension veterinarian at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in Urbana. Following is information from the obituary.


Visitation will beTuesday, Jan. 2, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Villa Grove United Methodist Church, 302 N. 2nd St., Villa Grove. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Countryside United Methodist Church in Sidney, with the Rev. Kenneth Hutchens officiating. Burial will follow in the Locust Grove Cemetery in Philo. Joines Funeral Home of Villa Grove is in charge of arrangements.


Scoggins received his doctor of veterinary medicine degree in 1960 from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He practiced veterinary medicine from 1960 to 1977 in Michigan, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. In 1977, he left private practice to join the faculty of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine as equine and sheep extension veterinarian. He continued that position until his retirement in 2004.


Scoggins was a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) since 1960, where he served on numerous committees, chaired the Ad Hoc Dentistry Committee, and served on the AAEP’s Board of Directors from 2002 to 2005
