A contractor has captured 31 horses on the Jarita Mesa in an effort to reduce the population in the area.


Carson spokesman Ignacio Peralta says the US Forest Service hopes to round up 75 before foaling season in April.


Forest officials say range conditions can’t support the current number of horses, wildlife and livestock
