Turfway Park officials, representatives from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, and the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority (KHRA) veterinarian, met this afternoon (Jan. 10) at Turfway to update the current status of equine herpes (EHV-1) at the northern Kentucky racetrack.

Barns 26 and 27 remain quarantined. Horses in those two barns continue to be tested for EHV at regular intervals, approximately every seven days. A horse testing positive confirms that the individual has been exposed to the virus, but it does not confirm the manifestation of the disease.

As of Saturday morning, Jan. 7., there were six positive tests in Barn 26, with no horses showing any clinical signs of EHV-1 which can include fever, ataxia (incoordination), or other neurological disorders. Within Barn 26, 15 horses who had previously tested positive demonstrated a negative test when results were provided on Saturday. All horses in Barn 26 will be tested again tomorrow (Jan. 11).

Horses in Barn 27 are being tested today. No horses currently stabled in Barn 27 exhibit any clinical signs of EHV-1
