The American Farrier’s Association (AFA) President Craig Trnka, CJF announced the formation of the Louisiana Rescue Horse Shoeing Task Force created to provide care for the horses affected by the recent hurricanes, according to a press release.

In charge of the special task force is Ron Kramedjian of Lynnville, Tennessee. The AFA’s objective is to observe, treat, and prepare abandoned horses for adoption. These horses are currently under the care of veterinarians at Louisiana State University.

A group of volunteer farriers plan to travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Sunday, October 2.  For three days, the farriers will work with veterinarians at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales, Louisiana to provide the displaced horses with appropriate foot and veterinary care. An estimated 200 horses will be handled during the three days.

Needs for this operation:
1.  Farriers – Current volunteers include Bunny Goodrich; R.T. Goodrich, CJF; Eric White; Richard Fanguy, CJF; Danvers Child, CJF; David Hodges, CJF; Leslie Falvey, CJF; and others from the Southern Farriers Association and the Music City Horseshoers Association.  Additional volunteers are definitely needed.
2.  Equipment & Supplies – Commitments for equipment and supplies have been received from Delta Horseshoe Co.; Equilox International; Flatland Forge; GE Forge & Tool; Sideline, Inc.; Simonds International; and St. Croix Forge.  As other commitments are learned they will be added to this list.
3.  Campers & Trailers – Housing accommodations in that area are at a minimum.  Mr. Kramedjian is looking for campers, trailers, and other mobile facilities for the farriers to spend the night
