The University of Maryland Equine Extension will host an introduction to equine nutrition clinic on Nov. 1 at the university in College Park.

"Through a combination of lectures and demonstration, equine professionals and casual horse enthusiasts alike will gain a basic understanding of the equine digestive anatomy, nutritional requirements, and how to manage nutritionally related disorders," the program brochure reads. "During demonstration, students will learn to body condition score a horse, accurately assess feed weight and forage quality, and evaluate a ration. Anyone is welcome to register; no experience is necessary."

Speakers will include:

  • Amy Burk, MS, PhD, an associate professor and equine Extension specialist at the University of Maryland;

  • Erin Pittman, of Dodon Farm, in Davidsonville, Maryland;

  • Charlie Apter, PhD, a lecturer at the University of Maryland; and

  • Justin Sobota, MS, MSM, DVM, of South Mountain Equine in Middletown, Maryland.

The course fee is $40 per person and includes includes course materials and lunch
