Fire authorities in LaGrange, Ky., are investigating the cause of a barn fire that claimed the lives of 10 horses earlier this week.

Major Keith Smith, of the LaGrange Fire and Rescue Fire Prevention Bureau said that in the early hours of Oct. 29, a neighbor reported that the barn was ablaze. Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters found the 6,700 square foot structure completely engulfed in flames.

The 10 horses housed in the barn at the time of the fire perished in the blaze, Smith said. No other animals were located on the property at the time of the incident. A caretaker staying in the barn at the time of the fire was unhurt, he said.

Smith said that the fire does not appear to have been of suspicious origin
