Clean Test Results for Ky. Derby, Oaks Starters

The KHRC says all samples from Derby and Oaks horses were cleared with no irregularities found.

The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC) received the post-race test results May 7 from both the Longines Kentucky Oaks and the Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands, and all samples have been cleared with no irregularities found.

The KHRC’s official laboratory, HFL Sport Science, couriered samples from the top three Oaks finishers plus one other horse and the top three Kentucky Derby finishers plus two other horses, to its lab the evenings of May 3 and May 4. Normal protocol for other races is to test two horses per race.

Chemists and analysts worked through the weekend to expedite testing results. All samples were subjected to full instrumental analysis that detects more than 1,500 regulated medications and prohibited substances.

"The ability to produce results quickly gives the wagering public, industry stakeholders, and all competitors the confidence that these races were conducted with integrity," said KHRC executive director John Ward. "I am grateful to the HFL employees who worked diligently to give us a quick turnaround time
