Nearly 200 allegedly maltreated horses are awaiting placement into new homes after animal welfare authorities in Josephine County, Ore., seized them from their owner earlier this year. Several dogs, cats, chickens, and goats were also seized in connection with the case.

Josephine County Deputy District Attorney Carrie Wineland said that in September, county animal welfare authorities seized more than 177 Miniature Horses along with two full-sized horses, three Miniature Donkeys, and the other animals in various stages of alleged abuse and neglect from Crow’s Magical Miniature Horses in Cave Junction. In her status report to the County Board of Commissioners, Josephine County Assistant Legal Counsel Leah Harper said the horses all showed physical signs of long-term neglect, including lack of dental and hoof care. All also had parasites, Harper’s report said. Several dead animals were also discovered on the property, according to the report.

The animals’ owner, Kandi Crow, was subsequently charged with 44 misdemeanor criminal counts including animal neglect, animal abuse, and unlawful possession of a domestic animal.
