A Texas man is facing an animal cruelty charge in connection with the death of a donkey discovered hanging by its neck from a tree.

Upsure County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Lt. Freddie Fitzgerald said that on June 27, law enforcement personnel responded to an animal welfare report at a property in Camp Joy, Texas. At the scene deputies discovered a malnourished donkey and a goat. Upon further investigation, deputies discovered another donkey hanging from a tree on an adjacent property.

"The donkey had a chair around its neck," Fitzgerald said. "A chain hoist was used to lift the animal onto the tree."

Law enforcement authorities later arrested the animals’ owner, Anthony Brassler, and charged him with one count of felony animal cruelty. Brassler remains incarcerated in lieu of $50,000 bond
