New Bolton's Widener Hospital Reopens

The University of Pennsylvania's George D. Widener Hospital for Large Animals began accepting equine emergency patients on Aug. 30. The hospital reopened on Aug. 2 for outpatients and scheduled elective surgeries. The hospital, located at New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, Pa., closed May 10 to new patients because of an outbreak of multidrug-resistant Salmonella infection. The entire hospital complex has been sandblasted, disinfected, and repainted, various renovations have been made, and additional biosecurity measures have been instituted. For more information, see
