Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation is funding a new project with the Kentucky Association of Equine Practitioners to seek critical information on Mare Reproductive Loss Syndrome (MRLS). The project will involve monitoring of mares to seek additional information as to whether tent caterpillars and/or their waste are associated with fetal loss.

“We felt it was urgent that this study be undertaken immediately, at the same time of year associated with the massive loss of foals last year,” said Dr. Woody Asbury of the Foundation. “This should more definitively establish a linkage or lack of linkage with this phenomenon.”

The study will be conducted by Dr. Bill Bernard, president of the KAEP, and will be monitored for Grayson-Jockey Club by Dr. Asbury.
